The New York Yankees are back for redemption in 2011 after a poor showing in the American League Championship Series. The pitching and hitting completely disappeared against the Rangers in the series to advance to the World Series against San Francisco. However, 2011 is a new year. Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Joe Girardi were all re-signed. The addition of Russell Martin will give the Yankees an upgrade defensively behind the plate. The Yankees will look to all of the familiar names, as well as some newer names to help them in their quest for number 28. The newer names are led by Jesus Montero and Phil Hughes. Montero is one of the highest rated catching prospects in AAA. He is a power hitter with some average defense behind the plate. Montero should be a huge addition to an already potent Yankees lineup. Phil Hughes will be a huge key to the success of the 2011 Yankees. With Burnett’s inconsistencies, New York will lean on Hughes for a solid season on the mound. Robinson Cano emerged as one of the top players last year in all of baseball. The second baseman was a highly considered candidate for MVP and rightfully so. CC Sabathia will lead the charge for the Yankees staff. Sabathia put up great numbers during the season and will look to throw well again. The Yankees Captain will try to bounce back after one of the worst seasons of his career. Derek Jeter signed a new contract in the offseason, partially based on performance. New York will need all of their big names to show up this season to compete in the stacked American League East Division. The rivalry against the Boston Red Sox will be in full force with some new names in the mix. Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Tickets are always some of the best games around.
